[Korea] Gueom-ri Stone Salt Farm

be restored to tourism resources

If you drive along the west coast of Jeju Island, you can meet Salt Ville, Korea's only stone salt farm. Located in Gueom-ri, this stone salt field raised soil in the vast basalt area where lava hardened and broken, filled with seawater in each compartment and dried in the sun to manufacture sea salt. It was once an important means of living for the people of Gueom-ri, with the size of the salt field reaching 4,958m². Those who were called "salts" inherited their precious salt fields only to their eldest daughter. This is where you can guess the characteristics of Jeju, where women's lifestyles were much stronger. The Gueom-ri Stone Salt Farm, which was actively operated until the 1950s, eventually disappeared due to cheap salt from the land. However, the newly restored stone salt field as a tourist resource presents a special scenery that cannot be found anywhere in Jeju. In particular, when the salt field is filled with water, tourists can take pictures of reflections as clear as a mirror.
